In 1989, The European Parliament approved a Resolution on the discrimination of the transsexual people in whom it requests to the States members that pass dispositions on the right of the transsexuals to change of sex of endocrinologic and surgical character, the procedure and the prohibition of discrimination, treating of which all the costs are responsability of the National Health Service.
The current situation in the bosom of the European Union is very unequal, coexisting States with a non-discriminatory and equitable legislation as regards unions in fact and transsexualism ; with others (Spain, for instance) where discrimination persists at both legal and social level toward the transsexual people, discrimination that has led to labour exclusion, prohibition of manifesting the affectivity freely in public, or scorn toward the transsexual community.
Considering the background above depicted, It is necessary that the following measures are claimed, in the European Parliament:
- A free and complete processes (surgical, hormonal, endocrinologic and psychological support treatments) of sex change and its inclusion in the National Health Service
- The normalization of transsexualism , favouring the social and labour integration and fighting against the discriminatory rejection.
- The existence of policies that guarantee the concession of asylum.
