THE estranged wife of body-in-chains victim Bryan Hooley will appear in court today after being charged by murder squad detectives.

Alison Hooley, 38, was charged last night with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

Mrs Hooley, of St Michael’s Drive, Roxwell, near Chelmsford, will appear before Lowestoft magistrates this morning.

Her brother Charles Halfacree, 36, a factory worker, of Upper Bridge Road, Chelmsford, has already appeared in court and been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of Mr Hooley.

Bryan Hooley/Christine ChappelThe naked body of Mr Hooley (left), a 28-year-old transsexual from Roxwell, was found washed-up on Kessingland Beach, near Lowestoft, on March 2.

It had been weighed down with a length of chain threaded through with three weights and secured by two padlocks.

A post mortem examination showed father-of-one Mr Hooley, who was also known as Christine Chappel after undergoing a sex-change operation six years ago, had died of head injuries caused by a flat object.

Australian-born Mr Hooley lived in Lancashire and studied electronic engineering at Salford University before moving to Essex.  He had been been working at an electrical store in Chelmsford before his death.
