Sex Change Doctor Wins 140,000 Bias Claim
A transsexual Harley Street doctor has been awarded 140,000 after winning a claim for sex discrimination against her former training school.
She says the National School of Hypnosis and Advanced Psychotherapy blocked her accreditation after learning she had been born a man.
Dr Tracie O’Keefe, a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist, was denied access to the school’s register which gives practitioners access to NHS patients.
Dr O’Keefe won her claim for sex discrimination at a London employment tribunal last year and has now been told she has been awarded £140,000 in compensation for loss of income and injury to feelings.
“This is a wonderful victory for all sex, gender and sexuality minorities everywhere. It shows the prejudice within many of the caring professions and ignorance specifically about transsexualism.”
No-one from the training school was available for comment.
