Pointers to internet resources on employment law

  • The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999
This isn’t an external link — the full text of the regulations is here on the Press For Change website. If you’re looking at issues of employment rights for trans people in the UK, start here … and then read the DfEE’s own guidelines on the regulations.
  • Transsexual People in the Workplace: a Code of Practice
Another local link … to a document which everyone trans person should have a copy of, whether they are in employment or looking for a job. Every employer should have a copy too if they want to follow best practice. Why not follow the links from the Code of Practice and order a printed copy to give your employer?
  • Equal Opportunities Commission
The EOC is the expert body on equality between women and men in the UK. It was created by Parliament in 1976 with three main tasks: working to end sex discrimination; promoting equal opportunities for women and men; reviewing and suggesting improvements to the Sex Discrimination Act and the Equal Pay Act. The EOC takes a pro-active role in promoting equal opportunities.
  • DTI regulatory guidance
The Department of Trade and Industry issues guidelines on many aspects of government regulations which affect business, and this page includes resources on employment law.
