These guidelines were produced as part of the work of the UK’s Parliamentary Forum on Transsexualism, chaired by Dr Lynne Jones MP - Transsexualism: The Current Medical Viewpoint. This document provides an overview of current best practice in providing effective health care for persons with the transsexual syndrome. It describes the nature of the syndrome, its diagnosis, treatment and outcomes; recognises its biological aetiology; and makes recommendations for the legal status of people experiencing transsexualism.
