It’s a shame that transsexual people keep wanting to love and nurture others, in a world whose record on reciprocity is nothing to be proud of. If they didn’t want to marry and bring up children like everyone else then their other demands would be so much easier for politicians to fudge.
It’s a shame that transsexual people want to work and contribute to society. If they didn’t want to be able to live and pay their way alongside other people then their sufferings would be so much easier for people to ignore.
It’s a shame that transsexual people complain when they’re beaten and raped. If they kept quiet then our laws that exclude them from the state’s protection wouldn’t be under pressure.
It’s a shame that transsexual people possess such dignity. If most didn’t live their lives so patiently and stoically then an inappropriately worded death certificate wouldn’t seem like such a wicked and pointless insult.
It’s a shame that transsexual people are so brave and honest. If they didn’t keep materialising from their well integrated and hidden lives to protest we’d be able to hang on to the false stereotypes that demean them.
It’s a shame that transsexual people want no more than anyone else expects … that they don’t want special treatment. If they didn’t simply want to be treated the same as anybody else then our reaction to them wouldn’t seem so extraordinary.
It’s a shame that transsexual people believe in common sense above abstract theory. Such a pity they’re more interested in reality as it’s lived, than being clever with words. If they didn’t keep pointing out what they so obviously are, then our insistence on the contrary wouldn’t seem so lacking in humanity.
It’s a shame that transsexual people believe so naïvely in justice. If they didn’t expect it then its’ absence would never be questioned.
It’s a shame Isn’t it?
But whose?
